The Coal Grove Hornet Jazz Band (a.k.a. The Jazz Band-its) is an afterschool performance ensemble made up of students from Dawson-Bryant MS & HS. Rehearsals are 1-2 days per week after school.
The Jazz Band plays jazz, swing and jazz-rock styles of music. The Jazz Band usually performs 4-5 concerts per year beginning in December. They have played for several venues, including Dawson-Bryant Elementary, Community Hospice Christmas Dinner and other local events.
Many students who do not usually play a wind instrument come out and play in the jazz band, many picking up a wind instrument for the first time, or changing instruments to play in the jazz band.
