7th Grade Students attended the 5th Annual Marshall University Cyber Summitt

On Thursday November 17, the 7th grade students traveled to the Big Sandy Arena to attend the 5th annual Marshall University Cyber Summit. Students had the opportunity to hear West Virginia State Police discuss consequences of cyber bullying and what could happen to them. The officer also shared what should and should not be shared online. Next to speak was US Marshall John Foster who spoke about his experience with struggling in school and being a victim of bullying. In the next session students heard a data analyst break down the data on how much time they spend on social media and using devices. He also shared information about social media apps and what they are used for as well as the dangers of using some of them. The last session for the students was about the dangers of social media. This presenter was able to show them how quickly he could find someone’s address just by going to their Facebook page. He then used Google Earth to show that he could find a picture of someone’s house with that information. He did all of this within a 5-10 minutes time span. Students were very well behaved and learned a lot of important information during this trip. Students asked questions throughout the day and took notes to bring back for a class assignment in Language Arts.
